According to news reports there is one lone Senator, Jim Bunning, Kentucky holding up unemployment extension legislation. The current extended unemployment benefits program is set expire on February 28 if not approved before then.
If an extension is not approved 1.2 million Americans will lose unemployment benefits in March, with more to follow.
The National Employment Law Project is suggesting calling your Senator, as well as contacting the Senate Republican Leadership, Senators McConnell (R-KY), (202) 224-2541, and Kyl, (202) 224-4521. Senator Bunning's number is (202) 224-4343
If Senator Bunning, and anyone else who doesn't understand how desperately an extension is needed, would like an idea what this is like for the millions of workers collecting unemployment, take a few minutes and read some of the stories about what it's like being unemployed that have been shared by site visitors: Unemployment Stories
