I had an interesting conversation with a career expert whose expertise I value the other day. He was concerned that, with all the new sites trying to jump on the job search wagon, that at least some job seekers were confused about what was available online for free and what they had to pay for.
He was also concerned about job seekers not knowing, for example, that they didn't have to pay to access job listings. Another expert told me yesterday that he didn't think there were any listings available on the sites that charge job seekers a fee (typically monthly) that weren't available elsewhere free.
That said, in my opinion, there are some job sites and job search assistance (resume writing, career coaching, etc.) worth paying for, if you can afford it, but they offer products and services that can provide an edge when you're job seeking.
However, you don't need to pay to find a job. There are more than enough free resources available for anyone to effectively find a new job.
