Sometimes, even when we're out of work and desperately looking for a new job, it's important to take a break. I mentioned that in the article I wrote on Holiday Job Searching for JobDig.com:
Regardless of how badly you need a job, and I know how tough it can be, take a break and take some time for yourself. The holiday memories you make with your family and friends will linger much longer than the memories of the resumes you sent or the cover letters you wrote.
Those memories really do mean more, in the long run, than whatever job search stuff you did today. A few years ago my brother and I took our dad and our families to New York City to see the Radio City Christmas Show. It was New Year's Day and a record-breaking 60 degree day without a cloud in the sky. Little did we know that would be our dad's last celebration of a new year. We all had a wonderful time and it's a memory that none of us will forget.
I remember another Christmas where we had a blizzard and stayed home and watched the snow pile up while we played board games and drank hot chocolate. Then bundled up to play with the kids and the dogs in the snow.
It can be the little things, rather than a pile of presents, that make the best memories...
Happy holidays to all.
