I'm typically not a big proponent of fee-based job sites. It's pretty hard to convince me that it's worth paying money for what you could do yourself for free. On the other hand, can it be worth spending some money if the site saves you time, energy, and effort? It can, possibly, but I still need convincing that the site is worth spending money on...
In the interest of being fair and not automatically saying I'm not interested because there's a fee, I decided to give JobSerf.com a shot. Since I'm not job seeking, I recruited a couple of people who were in the midst of a job search to give it a try (disclosure: JobSerf.com gave them both a two week free trial).
I was very interested to read about Erin's experience with JobSerf.com. She's a recent college grad who has been working hard at job searching in a tough market, especially for entry level job seekers. The company didn't just randomly apply for jobs for her (which was one of my concerns). Rather, they spent time collecting information on her interests, target companies, and the locations where she wants to work. Then her Serf (I still cringe a bit at that job title) found and applied for jobs for her.
When you look at the results, she heard back from employers and save a whole bunch of time. All in all, that's a a good outcome.
